TotalEnergies’ principal HSE challenge is understanding the likelihood and severity of risks. TotalEnergies operates the offshore Lapa oil and gas field, which lies 270 kilometers off the coast of Brazil, working with MODEC, operator of the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba MV 27. The two companies have combined their expertise and experience in an unusual partnership that has spurred a joint strategy to improve processes for assessing risks and ensuring asset integrity. In this video, Manuel Pungo, Field Operations Manager at TotalEnergies E&P do Brasil, explains the impact on the Lapa teams and the field’s operational performance.
In addition to optimizing risk management for the Lapa project, TotalEnergies has introduced a number of innovations. In one, a turbine system uses gas containing 40% carbon dioxide to generate power (the field’s gas has a very high acid and CO2 content). This state-of-the-art technology offers substantial opportunities for improving operations.
Approached by other countries and the Brazilian Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Institute, TotalEnergies also regularly makes presentations on its technical expertise in managing Lapa asset integrity.
